Bob Dylan's harmonica-aided folk merges with Joanna Newsom's fluid narratives and Cat Power's vocal somberness on "The Confiscation," Samantha Crain's five-song "musical novella." Only 21, the Oklahoma Choctaw singer belies her age through ambitious subject matter -- sample song title: "In Smithereens, the Search for Affinity" -- and literate lyrics.
