    Bouie

    ISAIAH BOUIE

    Rainier Beach, Senior

  • FEATS: Finished sixth in the 3A 100- (11.36), fourth in the 200- (22.78) and sixth in the 400-meter dashes (50.53) despite a hamstring injury.

    FREDERICK

    NORRIS FREDERICK II

  • FEATS: As the defending 4A high jump champ, won both the long jump (22-11) and high jump (6-8) at state.

  • INSPIRATION: "There are several people who give me strength and inspiration-- Karleigh Knorr, my brother Anthony Shears, coach Jim Neff, my mother Darlene Shears, Laura Mohler, Alicia Roper and her family."

  • FUTURE: Goals include participating in college basketball and track.

    FREDRICKSON

    JAMES FREDRICKSON

    Kentridge, Junior

  • FEATS: Won the 4A 110 High Hurdles (14.45) and 300 Intermediate Hurdles (37.76) at state, becoming the only junior to win both hurdles events at the 4A level. Placed fifth in the 110 hurdles in 2002.

  • INSPIRATION: "God is my inspiration; my abilities and talents come from Him. I also look to my grandpa, Alvin, who is 90 years old. My dad, sister and brothers all ran the hurdles, so it's in the family."

  • FUTURE: " 'Individuals win events. Coaches and teams win championships.' " I want to remember this quote for my future along with attending a four-year college."

    Henley

    JOEY HENLEY

    Kentridge, Senior

  • FEATS: Placed second at state in the 4A high jump (6-7), fourth in the triple jump (46-4 1/2) and seventh in the 110 High Hurdles (15.44). Named the field athlete of the year in the SPSL North.

  • INSPIRATION: "My dad -- he pretty much taught me to give my best effort, no matter what I'm doing. My whole family is competitive and I'm no different. I'm always pushing for a personal best whenever I compete."

  • FUTURE: Henley accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He hopes to play both basketball and football his sophomore year.

    Jenkins

    KYLE JENKINS

    Thomas Jefferson, Junior

  • FEATS: Jenkins won the 4A state triple jump and broke the meet record (49-3 3/4) with a leap of 49-8 1/2, almost two feet better than his personal best. Placed third in the event at state in 2002. Took sixth place at state this year in the long jump with a leap of 21-10.

  • INSPIRATION: "I'm really competitive and don't like to lose, so I use that as motivation to train. In fact, I train all year and actually enjoy the hard work."

  • FUTURE: Jenkins plans on playing football, basketball and track his senior year. His main goal is to return to state and defend his triple jump title, maybe breaking the state record of 50-0 3/4.

    MOODY

    RICKEY MOODY

    Spanaway Lake, Senior

  • FEATS: Took second at state in the 4A long jump (22-9 1/2), ninth in the triple jump (45-1 1/4), 12th in the shot put (49-4 3/4) and ran on the 4 x 100 relay team. In 2002, took third at state in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump.

  • INSPIRATION: "I'm always trying to push myself to improve and be the best athlete I can be. If I need extra inspiration, I look at the national leaders and keep working at catching up with them."

  • FUTURE: Hoping to attend either the University of Washington or Eastern Washington University. Wherever he goes, he plans on participating in track.

    ROLFE

    NATE ROLFE

    Inglemoor, Junior

  • FEATS: Placed third in the 4A discus and fourth in the shot put; won the discus at state as a sophomore. Has the top discus mark in the state this year at 194-4, second best in state history by a junior. Was the field athlete of the meet at the Eason Invite and placed second at the 2003 Arcadia Invite.

  • INSPIRATION: "To put it simply, I love to throw. I also enjoy not having to rely on others to compete. It's extremely satisfying to hit a good throw and see the reward of all your efforts."

  • FUTURE: Planning on training for track through next fall and most likely will not participate in football.

    WAUTERS

    MATT WAUTERS

    Bainbridge, Junior

  • FEATS: Won the 3A shot put (58-2 1/2) and discus (172-10), despite spraining his ankle four weeks before state.

  • INSPIRATION: "I've been on the track team since I was a freshman and really enjoy it. I like team sports but sometimes I feel other people don't want to put in the same level of effort as I do, which can be frustrating. The shot and discus are pretty much individual events, and that motivates me to do the best I can."

  • FUTURE: Plans to defend both his titles next year.

    YOUNG

    CHANCELLOR YOUNG

    O'Dea, Junior

  • FEATS: Helped lead O'Dea to its second state track championship by winning the 3A 100 (10.95) and 200-meter (21.98) dashes and ran on the 4 x 100 relay team that set a 3A state meet mark with a time of 41.62.

  • INSPIRATION: "My parents and God. My parents instilled a good work ethic and God gives me the strength, as well as that little extra boost, when I need it."

  • FUTURE: Will play football in the fall and plans to return to state in track, maybe adding the long jump to his repertoire.
