CARY, N.C. -- The Seattle Sounders gave up an own goal in a 2-1 loss to the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday night.
Connally Edozien gave the RailHawks the early lead, but an own goal from Noah Merl offset a Sebastien Le Toux penalty kick as the Sounders suffered their second defeat of the season.
Each team scored early and Seattle maintained pressure on the attack until the 16th minute, when Zach Scott received a red card for a hard hit that caught RailHawks midfielder Kupono Low in the back, leaving the Sounders down a man for the remainder.
In the 44th minute, a miscommunication between goalkeeper Chris Eylander and Merl led to Merl heading a ball back to Eylander, who had come up to retrieve it. Merl's header fell beyond Eylander's reach and bounced into the net.
