Actors struggle to dress for success in 'Streetcar' performance

It's not billed as a comedy, but a recent performance of "A Streetcar Named Desire" at Intiman Theatre had the audience roaring.

Angela Pierce and Chelsey Rives, who play Blanche and Stella, respectively, had an unexpected struggle getting Blanche into the dress she wears as she surrenders to "the kindness of strangers" at the end of the show. Pierce couldn't get her arm through a sleeve, but she and Rives continued with their lines.

Pierce was still stuck when she uttered the line, "This place is a trap," and the audience erupted. When the dress was finally on, the relieved actors hugged and proceeded with the scene.

When she came out for a post-play discussion, Pierce got another laugh when she told the audience: "I bet you all want to wear that yellow dress." "Streetcar" continues at Intiman through Aug. 2.
