Up to three southbound lanes of Interstate 5 will close starting at 8 p.m. Monday between Interstate 90 and Spokane Street through Wednesday night.
Crews will be repairing expansion joints in the roadway. At least two lanes will remain open. Three lanes will close by 11 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.
Then on Wednesday night crews will close the three right-hand lanes, the southbound merging lanes to southbound I-5, the west- and eastbound ramps from I-90 to southbound I-5 and the ramp from southbound I-5 to Forest Street.
The southbound expansion joints, supposedly in better condition than those in the northbound lanes, should take far less time to repair than those on the northbound side. Crews are scheduled to close up to three northbound lanes in the same area around the clock from Aug. 10 to 29 to repair the joints in those lanes.
Drivers are asked to carpool, join vanpools, use transit and adjust work schedules while the northbound work is under way. Other information is online at wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/SpokaneStreetBridgeRepair/CommuteOptions.htm
