It's a date: Alicia Silverstone's matchmaking is not to be missed.

Ideal mate is: Already missing "Sex and the City's" Carrie Bradshaw, but has hope that she or he won't need to resume dating Ben & Jerry on Friday nights.

First impressions: Kate Fox (Silverstone) is a divorce attorney who works in her clueless father Jerrold's (O'Neal) law firm. But her natural talents lead to a little free-lance matchmaking.

Promising? OK, we realize the whole thing sounds relentlessly girlie, but series creator Darren Star has managed to hit a bull's-eye here. Silverstone's not as whiny as she used to be, even if Katie recalls Cher from "Clueless" -- a more sophisticated, adult version of Cher as opposed to the meringue-molded kewpie doll lodged in the memory. In a perfect world, "Miss Match" would be paired with a female-skewing softie like "Ed." But "Dateline" provides a decent cushion between it and "Boomtown," allowing time to negotiate the surrendering of the remote. And though they probably won't admit it, this is the kind of show that has the potential to whip even then burliest he-men.
