Local Emmy winners announced

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

KIRO/7's 5 o'clock news has been awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Daily Newscast, topping a long list of Western Washington winners announced Saturday at the 41st Annual Northwest Regional Emmy Awards ceremony.

In terms of number of awards, KOMO/4 led the pack with 14, followed by KING/5's 11 awards and KIRO's haul of seven. Among KING's victories was the live, breaking-news award for its coverage of flooding around Washington, while KOMO's John Sharify shared an Emmy with Amy Svitak, a 12-year-old homeless girl who interviewed fellow homeless people in shelters and on the street for a feature entitled "Homeless Like Me."

KCPQ/13 sports anchor Dan Devone and meteorologist Monty Webb each won awards for individual achievement. The Northwest Regional Emmy Awards includes television stations from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, and are sponsored by the Northwest Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

News professionals from outside the region judge submissions.
