TV Guide Ventures Inside the Big Brother 10 House
What happens when eight journalists are picked to live in a house for 12 hours with no cell phones, Blackberries or contact with their news desks? Well, let me give you a hint — it wasn't pretty!

Cheers: Earl in the Family

The Davids on Tour: Who's Feeling More Love?
The American Idol tour officially kicked off in Arizona July 1, starting a summer-long bus odyssey of the continental U.S. On day seven of the journey, though, David Cook and David Archuleta are already feeling the heat of mega fandom that they ignited during Season 7 — albeit in their own ways.

Ring in the Fourth with Jimmy Smits
G.J. Donnelly:  New Dexter costar Jimmy Smits serves as host of A Capitol Fourth (tonight at 8 pm/ET, PBS), the annual holiday bash from Washington, D.C. The fireworks are provided by Jerry Lee Lewis, Huey Lewis and the News, Taylor Hicks and, of course, the fireworks.

TV Guide: Sounds like a pretty sweet way to watch fireworks….
Jimmy Smits: You've got to experience the fireworks on the lawn with the backdrop of all those monuments and the "1812 Overture!" It gives you goose bumps.

Reader's Cheer of the Week: Middleman of the Hour
Posted by dmmabc...

Cheers to ABC Family's new sci-fi series The Middleman! What writing! What great characters! What a whole lot of fun! Television like this gives one the excuse to stay inside in the air-conditioning during the summer.

Reader's Jeer of the Week: Sight Unseen
From Bart Cassel in Orange Park, Florida...

Jeers to In Plain Sight et al. Why would anyone agree to go into the witness protection program as portrayed on TV? The witnesses are invariably found out and shot, lost or otherwise exposed. If I saw the Mob perpetrate a crime the last thing I would do is entrust my life to the government.

Circus Performer Antonio Sabato Jr. Faces Death!
Matt Webb Mitovich: Antonio Sabato Jr. has quite the juggling act going on these days, balancing his derring-do as a Celebrity Circus performer (Wednesdays at 10 pm/ET, on NBC) with his return to Port Charles by way of SOAPnet's General Hospital: Night Shift. Sabato shared with us a look inside the two gigs, one utterly foreign and frightful, the other familiar and fun.

Will Jagger Find Night Shift Love with... Brenda?!

The Wackness: Sex, Drugs and Hip-Hop, at Any Age
With The Wackness, writer/director Jonathan Levine has emerged as one of the first, few voices of that generation sandwiched between X and Y: The one that had Biggie and De La, Tribe and the Wu as its own soundtrack. Set in the throbbing, sultry New York summer of 1994, The Wackness not only explores the coming of age of its characters, but also that of the culture, as New York adjusted to Mayor Giuliani and a new brand of hip-hop hit the streets.

Kristy Lee Cook's Up Record Deal
Move over Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, there's a new hot blonde American Idol castoff in town! That's right, Kristy Lee Cook has inked a record deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville to create a country album that will drop later this fall.

Stephen Battaglio:

David Archuleta Still Waiting for First Kiss
OK, girls, Seventeen magazine asked American Idol runner-up David Archuleta the eternal question: when was your first kiss? "I haven't had a first kiss," he replied. Archie, 17, has let it be known before he feels he's not old enough to understand all the feelings that go along with a relationship.

Cheers: New York's Funniest to the Rescue

David Cook: Idol Tour Won't Detour Love Life
If you do the math on the American Idol Live! Ttour, it looks something like this: 53 performances in 49 cities over 72 days adds up to no love life. But as David Cook gets ready to board the bus, he's not worried about the damper it may put on his relationship with former American Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell. "I get to do what I love and love what I do, so no, it doesn't put a damper on anything," he told TV Guide between rehearsals and wardrobe fittings.

Ruben Studdard Ties the Knot
Former American Idol champ Ruben Studdard on Saturday married his girlfriend of two years, Surata Zuri McCants, in Alabama. Reportedly, Studdard didn't sing at the event, but he was flanked by 20 groomsmen for the 30-minute ceremony that included an exchange of vows, prayers, and music from a string ensemble.

Vincent D'Onofrio Puts Criminal Intent's Goren on the Couch
Mike Flaherty: Watching Vincent D'Onofrio's Det. Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Sundays at 9 pm/ET, USA) is a deliciously unsettling experience. We love the awkward mannerisms, the halting yet penetrating speech, the craned neck bend he performs when grilling suspects. He's brilliant, insightful, riveting. But, frankly, he seems a few sandwiches short of a picnic, if you know what we mean….

Rescue Me's Peter Tolan Finds Laughs in Finding Amanda
Matt Webb Mitovich: Did you hear the one about the compulsive-gambling TV writer who ventures to Vegas (of all temptations!) to rescue the hooker with a heart of gold? Sneaking into theaters this weekend, Finding Amanda stars Ferris Bueller himself, Matthew Broderick, as said sad screenwriter, with American Dreams girl Brittany Snow playing his casino-walking niece. Rescue Me cocreator Peter Tolan, who wrote and directed the indie comedy, shares the origin of this unorthodox tale. Plus: How he himself won big with a Belmont Stakes gamble!

Swingtown's Grant Show Must Go On
Mike Flaherty: Grant Show flashes back to the '70s with the sleeper hit Swingtown (Thursdays at 10 pm/ET, CBS). We caught up with him for a quick chat.

Idol Alum Blake Lewis Splits With Record Label
We have a new record! After only seven months since his album hit stores, former Idol runner-up Blake Lewis has parted ways with his label, Arista Records, making it the shortest relationship and Idoler has ever had with any label.

Reader's Cheer of the Week: To the Manor Born
Posted by synergy21...

Cheers to Animal Planet for landing Stockard Channing as the new narrator of Meerkat Manor! She brings a certain je ne sais quoi to the show, giving the writers a larger degree of creative license. As much as we enjoyed Sean Astin, we can't imagine him pulling off lines like, "What light through yonder bush breaks?" like Channing did in episode 2. Great job as always, AP!
