Making art for UNICEF

Last year, Northwest board members of UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) took the phrase "Art of Change" literally.

They gave regional artists heaps of foreign coins dumped at airports by returning travelers and asked the artists to make art from them, creating not only art but a giant pun, change in two senses.

This year, the pun's gone, but the art's going strong.

This month "Art of Change" is represented by exhibits in five locations: Seattle's Children's Museum (through Oct. 31); Bainbridge Arts and Crafts (through Oct. 27); Kirkland Arts Center (Friday-Nov. 15); Tacoma BKB and Company (Oct. 17-Nov. 15), and Seattle's Gallery 110 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2).

Sale proceeds will be divided between the artist, the venue and UNICEF, which plans to use the money to benefit the United Nations' Global Girls' Education program.

Gloria Crouse's "Watches," pictured here, will be at BKB and Company.
