WNBA salutes Janell Burse

By MARK BERGIN
SPECIAL TO THE POST-INTELLIGENCER

Having won six consecutive games, the Storm continued its merry-go-round of all things positive yesterday as 6-foot-5 post Janell Burse was named WNBA Player of the Week.

Burse scored a career-high 27 points on 11-for-13 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in a 78-69 victory over the Charlotte Sting Friday. She followed up with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and nine rebounds in Sunday's 77-72 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

The fifth-year center, in her second season with the Storm, had never before received the league honor.

"It's so nice to see a player that really goes unnoticed for the most part be recognized at that level -- and so much deserved," Storm coach Anne Donovan said.

Burse is having a career season, averaging 10.3 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes per game. During Seattle's current winning streak, she is averaging 13.7 points and seven rebounds while shooting 58 percent from the floor.

"Lately, I've been more aggressive offensively," Burse said. "I'm feeling more comfortable at the high post with the ball."
