Storm waives two rookies

SPECIAL TO THE P-I

The Storm waived rookies Natalie Doma and Allie Quigley on Thursday.

Seattle now has 13 players in training camp, with Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird scheduled to arrive next week. The Storm won't make another move until after its final preseason game at 7 p.m. Saturday at KeyArena against Indiana, coach and director of player personnel Brian Agler said.

"I just want to compliment those two on their efforts and how good of players and teammates they were when they were here," Agler said Thursday after practice at KeyArena.

Seattle used its 22nd overall pick in the WNBA draft on Quigley, a 5-foot-11 guard from DePaul.

"Obviously it stinks right now, but I'm confident I can play in this league," she said when reached by phone Thursday night.

In Seattle's preseason loss last week in Chicago, Quigley (five rebounds, four assists) missed all six of her shots in front of her home crowd.

"It just went downhill from there, and I guess I wasn't the player they were looking for," said Quigley, also mentioning how positive her experience was in Seattle.

She may try to squeeze in her required five weeks of student teaching at a high school this spring so that she can officially graduate. Otherwise, Quigley has to wait until the fall.

Regardless of Quigley's school situation, Agler thinks the All-Big East selection has a bright WNBA future in the next year or so, if not somewhere else this season.

Doma, who signed a training camp contract April 9, played 11 minutes this preseason (two points, three rebounds). A native of Victoria, B.C., the 6-3 center finished her Idaho State career as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in the Big Sky Conference.

Doma is expected to play in France during the offseason.
